Fast Access Colorectal Clinic – Information for GPs

The Elevio Fast Access Colorectal Clinic provides timely, consultant-led assessment for patients with urgent but non-emergency colorectal conditions, helping to avoid unnecessary emergency department presentations and prolonged outpatient waiting times.

Referral intent

This clinic is designed for patients who are:
Clinically stable
Appropriate for outpatient review
Requiring expedited colorectal assessment
Appointments are typically offered within 3–5 business days of referral receipt.

Suitable referral indications

Rectal bleeding
Painful anal fissure
Thrombosed haemorrhoids
Perianal pain or swelling
Suspected perianal abscess
Pilonidal abscess or sinus
Suspected fistula-in-ano
Change in bowel habit with red-flag features
Iron-deficiency anaemia with suspected colorectal source

Exclusion criteria

Patients with the following should be referred directly to the Emergency Department:
Haemodynamic instability
Ongoing heavy gastrointestinal bleeding
Sepsis or systemic infection
Acute abdomen
Severe uncontrolled pain requiring IV analgesia
